With Valentines Day quickly arriving. Heed my warning it’s time to start shopping for gifts or build something.

Some of the best gifts I’ve given my wife have been handmade. Now I’m not the handiest as in I can’t work on a car. I am however a graphics & product designer so coming up with ideas isn’t a problem. Executing them on the other hand, not always a success. For instance, one year I tried to make a dozen origami roses. Failure, miserable, miserable failure. I couldn’t even make one let alone a dozen. So, over the next few posts will be some ideas you might be able to attempt with me.

Jewelry Organizer

I made one of these and it’s easy. It organizes your wife’s jewelry using dowels. It organizes her make-up using magnets so the cases stick to the sheet of metal behind the chalkboard paint. Use as a chalkboard, or anything else you need off the counter so you can actually have a place for your stuff.

If you don’t want to cut the wood to make a frame you could always find a thick frame as your base.

Add you own personal twists like baskets to hold little items.

You might want to only use part of this to create a simple necklace or earring display. Any other ideas that this sparks? Let me know in the comments.
