With the day of love, February 14th, just around the corner it’s always hard as a new parent to know what to get your little valentine for their first Valentine’s Day. However, finding the perfect valentine’s day gift doesn’t have to be hard if you know what to look for.

I’ve been through this 3 times and each one was similar to the others with the exception to our son who was almost a year old at the time so his was more younger kids then baby. Here are my top picks of the best Valentine’s Day gifts to get your little on this special day.

Board Books

One of our top picks is books.  When they are a baby we go with board books. We usually get them a Valentine’s Day book and sometimes another baby book. The board books are great for them to play on their own or with you reading them too. I also love getting them books I can just read to them. They have a lot of great regular classic books with a Valentines twist like “Where Is Baby’s Bellybutton” is “Where Is Baby’s Valentine”

Sunglasses

They have heart shaped sunglasses or you can just get what ever is on sale at the time. These are great if you take them to the beach and in case you are wondering When You Can Take Them To The Beach check out this post

Toys

Heart-Shaped Toys like this Silicone heart stacker by playground is 6 months+, is made with food-grade silicone, and is good for learning fine motor skills. They also have different colors and shape so if you are not a fan of getting your son pink and purple you have that option as well.

Outfits

Swoon-worthy outfits especially holiday themed ones are something we always get. We usually keep their first holiday outfits like baby’s first Valentine, first Halloween, first Christmas and so on.

To go along with outfits they also have holiday themed bibs.

For the baby girls you can get headbands like a pink with red hearts or flowery.

Teething Items

Silicone necklace that we got as a baby giftbefore knowing the hazard.

With babies starting to teeth between 4-7 months teething items are a good to have. Necklaces with silicone beads or other silicone jewelry are not a good option. According to the FDA on multiple articles teething jewelry are considered not safe. I suggest finding multiple options until you figure out what works best for your baby. We have different tethers some just silicone, some filled with liquid so when you put it in the fridge they got cold to sooth the gums. We even used a wet wash cloth that we left in water in the fridge and when the baby needs it we wring it out and let her chew on it. Just always make sure you are watching them to be sure they are safe.

Stuffed Animal

This is a great option of kids of all ages. In our house we LOVE stuffed animals. We have a never ending amount of plush toys and Valentine’s Day is no different. One of our son’s favorite plush is his first Valentine’s Day plush which is a stuffed bear with a heart. I will say try to find ones that are machine washable because surprise surprise they will get dirt, pee & poo‘d on, vomited on, and dipped in their food. So

Bath Toys

You could get them regular bath toys or Valentine’s themed ones. I know that you can find them on Amazon as well as some at Target usually in the means of rubber ducky’s.

If you do get bath toys look for ones that don’t have the little hole in the bottom. After a while the ones with holes tend to get mold on the inside.

Sweet Gifts

Not really sweet but by the time of year their first Valentine’s Day comes around or possibly their 2nd it’s a good chance they are learning to eat and one thing we always had a full stock of was the Gerber Lil Crunchies, Puffs, and Yogurt melts. Not only did the babies love them but they were a great starter in learning how to pick up things with their little hands.

Of course, if you have a January or February baby most likely their first Valentine’s Day  won’t have these but keep them in mind for their 2nd Valentine’s Day.

So now that you have all the ideas on what to give them and picked out the perfect gift for your little love, how do you present it to them.

I say your best bet is to give it to them in a white rope basket or a plastic bin like this one from Target with Valentine’s Themed ribbon.

A cheap valentines themed basket will either sit around collecting dust and not be useful.

Buy a basket that can store something. For instance, we use the rope ones for toys, stuffed animals, extra diaper storage, baby blankets, bed covers, and sheets.
