Yule
Yule is a winter festival observed by the Germanic people. Incorporated into Christmas by the Christianization of the Germanic people and is now a noun meaning “Christmas” or “The Christmas Season”. It is still celebrated by many Pagans on the day of Winter Solstice.
The God Odin is believed to be the God of Yule in which he is also believed to have influenced the look of Santa Claus. Santa has 8 reindeer to Odin’s steed Sleipnir who had eight legs. Another coronation between the two is we leave cookies and milk out for santa and they left offerings to the God Odin.
Yuletide
Another way of saying Christmastime Yule is the day of Christmas and the season is Yuletide.
Yule gnome
Jeulenissen or Yule Gnome is a Norwegian myth where a little gnome called Julenissen brings presents on Christmas.
In Sweden a similar friendly gnome spirit called Jultomten brings presents on Christmas Eve. Similar to Santa, but instead of coming down the chimney he walks through the front door.
Yule goat
Joulupukki in finish means Yule Goat. A pre-Christian custom in which men dress as goats to perform rituals linked to fertility and harvests.
Yule lads
Yule lads or Jólasveinar is a Icelandic myth about 13 mischievous trolls. The 13 nights before Christmas children leave a shoe on a windowsill of their rooms and hope to get a little present from the trolls. However if the kids are naughty the get a potato in their shoe instead.
Yule log
A Yule log was traditionally the burning of a Christmas log. A Yule log could have been a entire tree or just a large log.
Yule man
Julemanden means Yule-man or Christmas Man in danish. This is their equivalent to Saint Nicholas or Santa Claus. It was forbidden to believe in Saints at that time in Denmark so the Lutheran Church created Julemanden sometime around World War II.
