As I continue my list of Christmas words I have come to the letter “O”. This letter of the alphabet was a bit difficult to find the right words for this holiday word list because I honistly don’t know a lot of O words. Regardless here is a list of 43 words that start with the letter O.

O Christmas Tree

“O Christmas Tree” is a traditional Christmas carol that celebrates the beauty of the Christmas tree. The song, originally in German (“O Tannenbaum”), pays homage to the evergreen tree, which symbolizes constancy and the festive spirit of Christmas. It’s a popular song that has been translated into various languages, and its melody is widely recognized during the holiday season. 

O Come, All Ye Faithful

“O Come, All Ye Faithful” is another classic Christmas carol. Also known by its Latin title, “Adeste Fideles,” the song invites believers to come and adore the newborn Christ. It has become a staple in Christmas celebrations and is often sung in church services and festive gatherings during the holiday season.

O Holy Night

“O Holy Night” is a beloved Christmas carol known for its powerful and expressive melody. The song reflects on the birth of Christ and the significance of that holy night. With lyrics that convey a sense of awe and wonder, “O Holy Night” has been performed by numerous artists and choirs. I think my favorite artist who sings it is Céline Dion.

O little town of Bethlehem

“O Little Town of Bethlehem” is a classic Christmas carol that reflects the birth of Jesus Christ in Bethlehem. This carol is often sung in church services and is part of the traditional repertoire during the Christmas season.

O’clock

The time that Santa Claus comes is thought to be between midnight and 4 o’clock am.

Observance

The observance of Christmas is different between countries. In the US we put up trees, hang lights, Christmas stockings, and sing Carols. In Nigeria gifts and money flow from the fortunate to the less fortunate. In El Salvador they celebrate with fireworks. In Colombia they decorate the city with lights, candles, Medellin becomes the most popular tourist destination because of it’s lights.

Occasion

This special occasion is the best time when you have your loved ones surrounding you. 

Off

Off to sleep, Turn off the lights before bed.

Offering

Offerings use to be commonly given to the church.

Offertory

When the basket or collection plate is distributed by the ushers at church. 

Office Party

Office parties are common during the Christmas time of year. Usually where I work we do a ugly Christmas sweater content. and either a secret santa or white elephant gift exchange.

Offspring

Offspring can be Jesus the offspring of God and Mary or your own offspring. 

Ogle

People ogle the lights and decorations when done right.  

Oh Tannenbaum

Oh Tannenbaum is a German Christmas song that means “O fir tree” it is the German song to our “O Christmas Tree” 

Oil

Olive oil for cooking or the oil in old lanterns

Old

Old St Nick is Santa or Saint Nicholas. The Jolly old bearded man dressed all in red with black boots who lives in the North Pole and delivers present to all the good little boys and girls around the world. 

Old-fashioned

An old Christmas like those of our childhood is what we chase after. Seeing Christmas through the eyes of my kids is as close to that feeling I’ve come. 

Olive

No not the small oval fruit. Olive, The Other Reindeer is a movie based of a Christmas story, staring Drew Berrymore from 1999 about a dog named Olive that is convinced he has what it takes to save Christmas.

Omniscient

Santa is Omniscient as in he has unlimited knowledge on which kids are naughty and which are nice.

One

One-horse opened sleigh is a line in the song Jingle Bells. If you get a chance to ride in one do it. A cold ride with hot chocolate or hot cider blanket and a loved one, what could be better or more romantic.

Opening Presents is commonly done on Christmas Day but in some countries like Germany it’s a common tradition to open them on Christmas Eve. 

Open-hearted

This is the season of open-hearted people those who are kind, honest, and generous.

Optimistic

I find optimistic people are my favorite people to be around especially during the Christmas Season. Even in Miracle On 34th Street they said “Christmas isn’t a day, it’s a frame of mind.”

Opulent

Opulent people, those with an abundance of wealth, tend to go big with gifts, decorations, and feasts.

Oranges

Most may feel this isn’t a Christmas item but whole else got an orange every year in the bottom of their Christmas stocking. It’s also a must have in addition to spices in apple cider. I have also discovered first had that is a wonderful addition to homemade cranberry sauce. 

Oratorio

A Christmas Oratorio is a musical work for both orchestra and voices on a large scale.

Oregano

One of the ingredients if you are a Christmas Turkey person. Personally we are a ham family but to each their own. 

Organized

Organized Chaos is how some decorate. That’s how we decorate our Christmas tree but it could be yard decorations, or just home decor in general.

Origins

Every holiday myth, lore, or legend has it’s origins. 

Ornaments

Ornaments like bobbles, bulbs, lights, garland, as well as other hanging decorations are the decorative items that make a Christmas tree sparkle.

Orthodox

Orthodox Christmas is is celebrated by Christians on January 6 & 7th. The reason for this is because they go by the old Julian calendar and not the Gregorian calendar we use today. 

Outfit

The Outfits can be those that Santa’s helpers the elves, mrs Claus or Santa’s himself wears. Their is also the outfit you wear to the office party, or to the family get together.

Outstanding

Outstanding light shows like the Balboa Island Boat Parade here in Southern California, or just when you are driving around looking at house decorations and lights. 

Ovation

The applause carolers or the choir gets at the end of the song.

Oven

People uses the oven for cooking Christmas dinner.

Overflowing

The stockings were overflowing on Christmas morning with gifts from Santa.

Overindulgence

What a lot of us do every year during Christmas dinner. 

Overjoyed

We get overjoyed for the time we get to spend with our family every year.

Ox 

The ox is often seen in the manger with the baby Jesus. He is thought to be symbolic of Christ’s sacrifice.

Also the Oxen is one of the Top 10 Christmas poems according to the Guardian. A 1915 poem by Thomas Hardy where every christmas farm animals kneel in their stalls to pay homage to the birth of Christ.

Oyster Stew

Oyster stew is a particularly popular Christmas Eve meal in certain coastal regions of the United States, such as the Chesapeake Bay area, New England, and the Gulf Coast. Coastal communities often have easy access to fresh seafood, including oysters, making dishes like oyster stew a festive and local tradition, especially during the Christmas season.
