The fiinal letter of the alphabet, the letter Z is one of the hardest to find Christmas words for. Perhaps you are playing the game of like my previous article on Christmas words that start with the letter Q the letter Z is another letter I struggle with finding Z words that start with Z and are Christmas. This holiday season I decided to create a list of Christmas words that has words no other lists will. I scoured other languages, other countries traditions, and foods, and the history of Christmas to find all the words I could that start with the letter Z.
Check out this list of some popular Christmas words and some you’ve never heard of to increase your Christmas vocabulary.

Dutch for “Merry Christmas”
Zampognari
A Christmas in Italy is for me to dress as shepherds and play traditional Christmas melodies on the zampogna. A zampogna is similar to a bagpipe, from Northern Europe, but the Italians version which has a minimum of 2 reed pipes.
Zardozi Embroidery decorations
This type of elaborate embroidery originated in Persia. This highly skilled embroidery technique traditionally uses gold wires and jewels. Mainly done to embellish courtly robes, those same techniques are used to produce fine Christmas ornaments.
Zat
Zat You, Santa Claus is a Christmas song by the great Louis Armstrong.
Zealous or Zeal
Zealous is a great word to describe how enthusiastic people are for this peaceful time of year. How could you not feel zealous this time of the year with plum pudding, jingle bells, hot chocolate with a candy cane, christmas cards, and all the other great things around the winter holiday.
Zentangle
Christmas zentangle is a form of art. See here is one example with it being a Christmas bulb coloring page. Not only is zentangle a cool word but the art itself is amazing.
Zero

Zeppole
This is a traditional Italian Christmas Eve donut.
Zest
Citrus zest is from the outer rind of a citrus fruit. It give a citrus note without the acidic of the juice. Often orange zest and orange slices will be found in hot cider as a perfect way to add those citrus notes. It’s also a found in a Christmas dinner staple at my house. I add orange zest to my cranberry sauce.
Ziemassvētki
This is how you say Christmas in Latvian. I’ve added the link in case you want to know how to pronounce it. Latvia is rich with Christmas history. You can thank them for the evergreen tree you put up in your house during this wonderful holiday. Why you ask, because they are the first one on record back in 1510 to have Decorated for Christmas.
They decorated the tree with roses and danced around it before setting it on fire.
Zimtsterne
Zimtsterne translated to “cinnamon stars” in english are traditional German cookie that have a prominent nutty flavor with a robust cinnamon aroma. Similar to ginger bread cookies but made with ground almonds. As a side not this is a gluten-free item if following directions similar to this one i found online by Daring Gourmet.
Zion
Zion is Jerusalem, where the city of David was built.
Zions daughter is a Christmas Song by Boney M., a German band, in 1982.
Zig Zag
How you lay the Christmas lights and garland on your Christmas tree. Or the zig zag wrapping paper
Zither Carol
On YouTube. This Christmas carol is a traditional Style song by James Galway
Zoey
In the 1998 Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer: The movie Zoey was Rudolph’s girlfriend. This film Rudolph is voiced by Eric Pospisil has an all-start case with people like Bob Newhart, John Goodman, Debbie Reynolds, and many more.
Zopf
Zopf or Züpfe is a braided Christmas bread common in Austria, the Czech Republic, Germany, and Switzerland.
Zwarte Piet
Also know as black Pete in English. He is the companion of Kris Kringle. He is the one one of santa’s helpers that gave candy to well behaved children and punished the others.
Zwetschkenknödel
Translated to plum dumpling in German. A pitted plum with a sugar cube place inside. Then they ate stuffed inside of some dough then cooked in simmering water. Finally, the are topped with a savory breadcrumb or browned butter or they’re topped with sweetness such as cinnamon sugar.
Zzz
Not in the dictionary, but this is the sound children sleeping… Well, that’s if your kids sleep.
